UN WOMEN ENDORSES GENDER ADVISOR TO AFC
AFC is in partnership with UN Women to take action against all forms of discrimination against women in order to achieve gender equality. UN Women is the United Nations' entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women and works with government and non-governmental partners to help them put in place policies, laws, services, and resources that women require to move towards equality. In agricultural systems, gender issues remain an unresolved challenge but also an untapped potential for ensuring gender- transformative development processes that target women and other marginalized members of the community. In this regard, therefore, UN Women seconded Elizabeth Obanda to AFC as Gender Advisor to support the Corporation in rolling out projects, particularly the WAAW project in a gender-responsive way. She will be attached to the MD's office for a period of six months. Madam Elizabeth reported on Tuesday, 23rd October 2018. The incumbent will; Provide technical support in engendering the lending mechanisms of AFC to ensure targeting of rural women and develop engendered guidelines/policy for gender-responsive agri-finance lending to rural women Under the overall guidance and direction of the AFC Managing Director, the Gender and Agri-finance Gender Advisor exercises overall responsibility for supporting AFC to integrate gender in the planning and implementation of their programmes. She will also work closely with the UN Women Deputy Country Director and the Team Leader Socio-Economic Development in ensuring AFC programmes, particularly the WAAW project take into account the relevant gender dimensions Provide technical advice in carrying out a gender /analysis of existing AFC related legal, policy and regulatory frameworks and make recommendations Advise and support the MD AFC on forging strategic partnerships at all levels to promote women access to agriculture financing and women economic empowerment opportunities et cetera
